The following game is a series of 12 puzzles designed to measure your critical reasoning ability.  As you play the game, please remember the following things:

  • There is no time limit to complete the game, however, the game will timeout after 30 minutes of inactivity.
  • All 12 puzzles are formatted the same way, and so the instructions below apply to all of them.
  • Once you start the game, you have to finish: you cannot logout and then come back to continue the game later.
  • You may find a pencil (pen) and paper helpful, especially for some of the more complicated puzzles.

Someone shines a laser (represented by the blue arrow) into a large, square space, consisting of 64 smaller square spaces, as shown below.  The diagonal lines located in some of the smaller square spaces are mirrors:  when the laser hits a mirror, it is reflected at a 90 degree angle, like this:

Puzzle Example 0

Note that the mirror inside a small square may slant from left to the right, or it may slant from right to the left:  please check the diagram to see which way each mirror slants, so that you can figure out where the laser would go if it were to bounce off that mirror.  The solution for this puzzle is shown below.

Puzzle Solution 0

In the above example, the green squares represent the path of the light from the entry point (arrow), bouncing off the mirror, exiting the puzzle at the YELLOW SQUARE.

While the puzzle above was not that difficult, the puzzles will get more difficult as you go on.

As you successfully complete a puzzle, smaller square spaces in the next puzzle will be labelled with a capital letter (like "X" or "Y").  One or more of the labelled square spaces may contain a HIDDEN mirror.  Clues are provided to the right of the large square that will help you to figure out which squares contain mirrors, and in what direction the mirrors are slanted.

Puzzle Example 1

Using the clues provided, YOUR JOB is to figure out which of the smaller spaces contain mirrors, which direction the mirrors are slanted, and at what point the light will exit the puzzle.

Puzzle Solution 1

To solve each puzzle, determine the exit point of the light and select (by using your mouse or touchpad) the square you believe the light will exit the puzzle and turn yellow.

As the puzzles become more difficult, more variables and hidden mirrors will be added. While there is no time limit, completing all 12 puzzles will take roughly half an hour.  Good luck!
